Veolia Romania, an organisation focused on water, waste and energy solutions and part of the Veolia Group, faced persistent challenges on budgeting and planning processes. Existing processes involved significant manual effort and data consolidation from multiple systems. This limited the company’s ability to access available data quicker and scale efficiently.
Recognising the need for a more robust and future-ready solution, the finance department—as the main sponsor of the initiative—engaged us to conduct a comprehensive assessment. This evaluation extended beyond the budgeting process and included a review of the broader system landscape. It also examined integration points and the quality of financial and operational data, focusing on accuracy, completeness and consistency.
This multi-dimensional analysis provided us with a clear understanding of both technical and functional gaps, enabling us to design a tailored implementation approach that aligned fully with Veolia’s standards and addressed their specific operational requirements.
One of the key challenges was integrating Workday Adaptive Planning with Veolia’s financial systems. We addressed this by developing automated data flows that eliminated manual extracts and provided faster data availability.
We also had to tailor budgeting models to reflect our client’s unique operational and reporting needs. This required close collaboration with the client’s finance and operations teams to ensure alignment and usability.
Our team, composed of functional business analysts and technical developers from both PwC Romania and PwC India, led the end-to-end implementation of Workday Adaptive Planning.
This began with a thorough analysis of Veolia Romania’s existing budgeting framework and integration requirements. We designed a customised data model based on Veolia’s standards. This enabled flexible data aggregation and segregation to support various stages of the budgeting process.
We developed upstream integrations with financial systems, conducted unit testing of all application components, created comprehensive user documentation, and ultimately implemented Workday Adaptive Planning in the production environment.
We also implemented the workflow functionality to automate manual tasks, significantly improving efficiency and user experience. Throughout the project, our team drew upon its deep expertise in enterprise performance management (EPM) solutions, working closely with stakeholders to ensure a seamless rollout and adoption.
“We worked closely with Veolia Romania to deliver a solution tailored to their needs. Our teams in Romania and India had an effective client collaboration that showcased our technical and functional expertise.
